Welcome to the Official site for the Alaskan Wet Dog Race

After the idea was born, the planning started.

These are the highlights of what has been worked on so far.

"The Name"

When I first had the idea for this event, I mentioned to Tony a watercrafting friend of mine what I was planning. He looked at me and said, thats a geat idea and you can call it the Wet Dog Race. I looked at Tony and said, "that is the perfect name for this event and that is what I am going to call it." That was how the name came about.

"The logo"

So armed with a vision and a name I needed a logo that would represent both. My idea was to have a dog on a watercraft and the state of Alaska in the background. I am not an artist and trying to draw something myself was not going to work. I began calling around and talking to every graphic artist I knew asking if they could draw me a logo, explaining to them what I wanted. Many months went by and no one was able to capture my vision in a logo.

One day at work I met Matt Barendt a crane inspector. As we were having dinner that night I happend to mention to him what I was planning and that I was needing for a logo. "Are you an artist by chance? I asked him. He replied, "Yes, I can draw a little, let me think it about some and get back to you."

The next morning at the morning safety meeting he handed me this picture.

I was very impressed in how he was able to capture my vision percisely. So I took his drawing and refined it some by tracing out a map of Alaska in Photoshop. I have spent hours on this logo and you are looking at what we eventually ended up with. Things on the logo could change from time to time depending on how much extra time I have and if anyone wants to try and enchance the logo. I would be interested in seeing what else could be done.
