The logisitics are prodigious, to say the least. But then, vision and ambition in sufficient quantities can overcome any obstacle. Let's hope this becomes the marine equivalent of the Iditarod! Suggestions? At some point you need to incorporate some 'flash' elements in your site. I'm sure that'll happen as interest grows. Don't change the entry fee or the prize(s). Teams should have no big hurdle finding sponsors or equity participants for this one-of-a-kind event given the lead time you've set up. Hope it works for you!

I've known John for a short amount of time but I do know that he is passionate about making sure that the Alaskan Wet Dog Race comes to fruition. His dedication and perserverance to this race will make it so. I have no doubt that this race will occur and be a huge event for the sport of personal watercraft racing. And, who wouldn't want to win a million bucks?! Good luck John! BTW-We will definitely have to do the trip real soon. The spectacular scenery and wildlife will make this a trip to remember for a lifetime. Regards, Mark White

why not race down the yukon from fairbanks to the ocean then on to valdez, the yukon is one wild ride sometimes, and not to diss your bad ass route. im way stoked , i just wish i had the entry fee, ya know
Our response,
Thanks for asking, That sounds like a great idea and perhaps we can try to work something out like that in the near future.
If you really think that you want to ride the race that we have planned for, and just need the entry fee, start now trying to get sponsors and or start saving $50.00 to $100.00 a paycheck and in no time at all you could end up with money on your own . It all depends on how serious you are about wanting to become the Alaskan Wet Dog Champion and take home that million dollar purse.
There is plenty of time to prepare for this event and there is no better time to set a goal for yourself and make it happen than NOW. Start training, planning, and saving, you can get it together and only you can make it happen for you.

John, Here is the link to the hospital web page I spoke to you about. Click on the link for Gabby's place for a little bit about the project. If you send me your address, etc. I'll make sure your donation gets credited to you and you will get a receipt from the hospital for tax purposes. Thanks again for the donation, we really appreciate it.

( A personal note from John Lang.
Steve is a friend of mine who works here in Alaska around me and we have known each other for around 10 years. Just about a year ago, Steve's wife and their 22 month old daughter Gabby were parked at a stop light in Spokane, Washington when the car they were riding in got hit from behind by a guy who was high and driving 60 MPH plus while talking on his cell phone. Gabby died in the hospital the next day from her injuries. Please visit Gabby's site. Steve and Belle are raising money to build a room at the Sacred Heart Children's Hospital in Spokane Washington that "will be a place for families to be together for whatever time a child may have left... a place that empowers families to make the most of the final moments."
Folks, If you can, please help Steve and Belle by donating to their cause to be able to make "Gabbys room" a reality. You can visit their site at
